Have you ever been curious about the inner workings of a computer? Now’s your chance to find out with Free Geek Toronto! 
Free Geek Toronto is a not-for-profit social enterprise dedicated to promoting digital inclusion through the reuse of technology., and we're excited to offer a hands-on workshop on how to safely take apart a desktop computer.
What You'll Do:
In this 90-minute hands-on workshop, you'll work in small groups (2-3 participants) to collaborate, troubleshoot, and safely disassemble and reassemble a desktop:
- Parts / Safety Instruction (30 mins): Learn safety guidelines to prevent injury and device damage, review internal components, and learn how to properly remove a screw.
 
- Disassemble / Reassemble Desktops (50 mins): Work together to safely take apart and then reassemble a desktop.
 
- Clean Up / Final Reflections (10 mins): Share what you learned.
 
What You'll Learn (Learning Outcomes):
Beyond the hands-on experience, you will gain a basic understanding of a computer's major components, such as the CPU, RAM, Motherboard, and Hard Disk Drives (HDD) vs. Solid State Drives (SSD). You will also learn:
- How to use hand tools like a Philips screwdriver.
 
- Health and safety guidelines to avoid cuts, scrapes, electric shock, and other hazards.
 
- The importance of repair, upgrading, and reuse in combating e-waste and promoting a circular economy.
 
- Other basic computer maintenance tips.
 
Program Details:
- Format: 90-minute hands-on workshop. (A 45-minute presentation option is also available).
 
- Cost: $250 for the 90-minute workshop.
 
- Group Size: Minimum 5, Maximum 15 participants.
 
This workshop can be tailor to suit any audience: youth (10-17), adults (18+), or seniors (65+).
