As an organization, Free Geek Toronto makes it a priority togive opportunities to everyone, no matter their economic situation. We are notjust about technology; we are a hybrid-model employment social enterprisethat’s all about creating a space where individuals can dive into the techindustry headfirst. With a focus on computer repair and refurbishment, we run adigital skills-building program that isn't just about fixing machines; it’sabout building futures.
At Free Geek Toronto, we focus on two main objectives:
- Employing individuals at risk of poverty, giving them not only a job but a career pathway in the tech industry.
- Making technology accessible, ensuring that refurbished devices reach lower-income individuals, thus bridging the digital divide and promoting digital inclusion.
As an Employment Social Enterprise, we connect employmentwith parallel hands-on training opportunities. Participants work and learnsimultaneously, gaining valuable employment and life skills. We emphasize thepower of open-source software, equipping participants with the must-havedigital skills to succeed in today’s tech-driven world. Since 2016, we havesupported over 66 program participants!

My favourite part about my time working at Free Geek Toronto was learning about the history of tech, what we use everyday, and the hardware that goes on behind it.
